The Arizona Diamondbacks and Cincinnati Reds have had a wild weekend. On Friday, the game got suspended due to rain, and they had to come back and finish it on Saturday. The resumed game went into extra innings, cooking several bullpen arms in the process. The second game saw the Reds explode for 13 runs. If it weren’t for the incompetence of the Atlanta Braves whom the D-Backs swept, we would be talking about an ugly streak for Arizona, who has lost their other 5 most recent series, which also includes series losses the Pirates and Nationals. On top of that, the D-Backs have benched their best player all weekend because of a prolonged slump. That’s not a team I want to back right now. I do, however, believe in Great American SmallPark, and if the wind is blowing out, I’m probably on the over.

The pitching matchup is favorable to scoring, as Zac Gallen and Brady Singer toe the slab. Singer is just a guy at this point, a veteran arm that is eating innings and can be counted on for a pedestrian 5 innings and 3 runs most of the time. Gallen, on the other hand, might be broken. He looked good in his last outing, but that ended a streak of 4 starts giving up at least 4 runs, something he has done in 7 of his 13 starts this year. The pitchers are vulnerable, the wind is blowing out, the bullpens are cooked, and the offenses are strong. I’ll take the over in this spot any time.
