We head to Queens where baseball’s winningest team, the Mets, will host the Diamondbacks. The Mets took game 1 on Tuesday, and that one was over almost as soon as it started, as the Mets were up 7-0 by the third inning. The offense has been strong for New York, and Juan Soto is only now starting to heat up a bit. Still, this is a spot where the Diamondbacks are favored, and I am in agreement. Today’s line has everything to do with the pitching matchup, and the question is whether you trust the Mets’ offense or the Diamondbacks’ pitching advantage. My D-Backs vs Mets pick is the D-Backs on the Money Line.
It’s a Corbin Burnes day for Arizona. Remember, he is pitching in the back of the rotation because of a weird spring training mix-up, and that has thus far given him a pitching advantage most days. He hasn’t been sharp though, and Arizona fans are still waiting on him to round into form. They saw flashes last time out, as Burnes fanned 8. Is he turning the corner? Hard to say, but he should have the advantage as the Mets are calling up 30-year-old journeyman Brandon Waddell for tonight’s game. Waddell last appeared in the Big Leagues in 2021, where he split time between three teams, all in the bullpen. My expectations are quite limited. Give me the Diamondbacks to take advantage.
