Atlanta Braves vs Washington Nationals Prediction, Odds and Game 1 Picks for Today, 09/16/25

It’s rare to see a late-season double header, but the Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals get ready to kick things off this afternoon with Game 1. Atlanta had no trouble handling Washington last night, cruising to an 11-3 win. Taking the mound for the Braves will be Jose Suarez who enters with a 1-0 record and a 2.45 ERA. 

For the Nationals, Jake Irvin will get the start, entering with a 8-12 record and a 5.70 ERA. Irvin has had a rough stretch, losing seven of his last eight starts, and in that span he holds a 9.25 ERA in that span. Offensively, the Braves are averaging 3.2 runs per game in their last 10, but they’ve shown signs of life with 19 runs scored in their past two games. For the Nationals, their offense is slightly better at 4.7 runs per game in their last 10. At the end of the day, I can’t trust Irvin in this matchup. Despite the Braves offensive struggles, they should be able to get to Irvin early in this one and take Game 1 of the doubleheader.
