The Boston Red Sox look to even the series against their rival after the New York Yankees took Game 1 in a high-scoring contest. This time around, Boston has ace Garrett Crochet (1.98 ERA, 1.06 WHIP) taking the mound while New York is also sending out a lefty in Ryan Yarbrough (2.83 ERA, 0.99 WHIP). Both starting pitchers are lefty, and both the Yankees and Red Sox have been significantly above average on offense when facing LHP. Both squads rank top-6 in BA and wRC+ against lefties while New York and Boston take up the top-2 spots in wOBA.
The production against lefties has been rather similar, so I have to go with the stronger starting pitcher in Crochet. He’s simply been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season, falling in the 90th percentile or better in pitching run value and strikeout rate. We don’t typically see Crochet at this price, and I’ll happily hop on board as this Red Sox lineup can keep up offensively if the runs start coming in. I’m going with Boston to get the win.
