Boston Red Sox vs The Athletics Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 09/09/25

The Boston Red Sox made a statement with last night’s 7-0 victory over the Athletics, and tonight they’ll look to lock up an early series win behind Dustin May. On the season, May is 7-11 with a 4.96 ERA and has struggled recently, going 1-3 with a 5.11 ERA over his last five starts. For the A’s, they’ll send Jeffrey Springs to the mound, entering with a 10-10 record and a 4.13 ERA. Springs hasn’t been much better of late, going 0-3 with a 5.40 ERA in his last five starts. 

It’s tough to trust either starter in this matchup, as both have put up nearly identical numbers over their last five outings. Offensively, the Athletics do have a slight advantage, averaging 5.4 runs per game in their last 10 compared to the Red Sox 4.8 runs per game. However, late into the game, I trust the Red Sox bullpen a lot more than I do the Athletics. Boston has the third best bullpen ERA in the majors this season, sitting at 3.46 compared to the Athletics 4.79 ERA. Look for the Red Sox to jump to an early lead and cruise to victory, making them my best bet of the day.
