There’s plenty on the line as the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays open a pivotal 3-game series. Toronto enters with a two-game lead in the AL East, while Boston clings to a one-game lead in the AL wild-card standings. Neither team can afford to be swept in this series, and as both teams will look to give it their all in this matchup, but I’m siding with the away team in this one.

Lucas Giolito is expected to get the start for Boston, entering this matchup with a 10-4 record and a 3.46 ERA. While he struggled in his last start against the A’s, he is 2-2 with a 2.48 ERA in his last 5 starts. For the Blue Jays, Kevin Gausman will get the nod. He is 10-10 with a 3.38 ERA. Gausman has been terrific of late, going 2-1 with a 1.75 ERA in his last 5 starts. Offensively, the Blue Jays are averaging 4.1 runs per game compared to Boston’s 4.3. Gausman is 9-10 with a 4.18 ERA in his career against the Red Sox. Look for Boston to find a way to steal one on the road and keep its playoff hopes alive.
