Chicago Cubs vs Philadelphia Phillies Prediction, Odds and Picks for Monday, 06/09/25

The Phillies have to be scratching their heads after getting swept by the Pirates, and things won’t get much easier as they get ready for a 3-game series against the Chicago Cubs. Philadelphia has now dropped 5 in a row and 9 of their last 10. Chicago didn’t fare much better in their last series, losing 2 out of three to the Tigers, averaging just 2.3 runs per game in that span. Over their last 6 games, the Phillies are averaging 2.7 runs per game, while the Cubs are slightly better, averaging 3.7. 

Taking the mound for the Cubs will be the left-hander Matthew Boyd, who’s 5-3 with a 3.01 ERA. Boyd pitched well in his last start against the Nationals, allowing just 2 earned runs in 7.1 innings pitched while striking out 6. For the Phillies, Zack Wheeler will look to rebound from his last start. Wheeler is 6-2 with a 2.96 ERA on the season. While both pitchers have been great this season, the biggest concern for me is the way the Phillies are playing, while they’re also going to be without Bryce Harper for an indefinite period of time. At the end of the day, the Cubs are hitting the ball slightly better and they have a better bullpen. Chicago isn’t afraid to play on the road, posting a 20-14 record, and I think they’ll get the job done against Philadelphia tonight. The Cubs on the money line is my best bet of the day.
