Chicago Cubs vs St. Louis Cardinals Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 06/24/25

In last night’s game between these teams, the Cardinals won 8-2 with 4 2-run home runs. We can only hope for the same amount of action today. On the mound for this one, we will see Jameson Taillon of the Cubs and Michael McGreevy of the Cardinals. Taillon has pitched well this season with a 3.84 ERA and a 7-4 record. He struggled in his most recent start where he gave up 5 runs in 4 innings against the Milwaukee Brewers. Prior to that start, he gave up 2 or less runs per start for 5 straight starts. Through his last 9 starts, the Cubs have won all starts where he has given up 2 or fewer runs while losing all starts that he has given up 3 or more runs. This may be a problem, considering the Cardinals lineup bats .312 against Taillon over 128 plate appearances. He has also given up 18 home runs this year including 4 multiple home run starts. These numbers can be a problem against a Cardinals team that has scored 46 runs over the past 7 games.

For the Cardinals, they will start McGreevy. McGreevy has pitched well in 2 of his 3 starts. The issue is that those starts were against the New York Mets and Chicago White Sox, 2 teams that rank in the bottom 10 on hitting. Today, he will go up against a Cubs team that rank 2^nd in runs scored and 5^th in hits. Additionally, the Cubs have a 21-17 record in away games this year averaging 5.73 runs per away game. Outside of the starters, both teams’ bullpens have not been playing great in recent games. Overall, I suspect that we will see all the pitchers struggle against such strong offenses, leading to plenty of runs scored. I am taking the over in this one.
