Cincinnati Reds vs Chicago Cubs Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 08/06/25

In this game, we will see the Cincinnati Reds take on the Chicago Cubs. This season, these 2 teams are tied 4-4 in the series. On the mound today, we have Andrew Abbott of the Reds and Cade Horton of the Cubs. Abbott is having an incredible season for the Reds with a 2.15 ERA and an 8-1 record. Though, he has had some issues with walks in his last 2 starts. In those starts, he has walked 8 batters. The positive news is that he managed to only give up 3 earned runs, even with the 8 walks. Opposing Abbott will be a Cubs team that has accrued 7 total hits over the past 2 games while batting .212 over the past 6 games. Adding to the concern of the Cubs hitting woes is the fact that Abbott has pitched against them twice this year. In those games, he has pitched 12.2 innings giving up just 7 hits and 1 earned run. Overall, I am finding it hard to see the Cubs scoring many runs before the 7th inning tomorrow.

For the Cubs, Horton will take the mound. Horton has been incredible in his last 3 starts. He has pitched 17 innings giving up just 8 hits and no earned runs. Numbers like these have not been the standard for Horton. In the month of June, he had a 3.98 ERA and in July he had a 5.47 ERA. Basically, I am hinting at the idea that we may see a dip in Horton’s play. I suspect that the Reds tally some runs against Horton considering they come into this one batting .262 and averaging just under 5 runs per game over the past 6 games. Outside of the starters, both bullpens play very similarly when looking at the statistics. All in all, we have Abbott against some struggling bats and that is something I will always take. I am rolling with the Reds to make it 3 in a row.
