Reds vs Pirates Pickswise Expert Predictions
The Cincinnati Reds travel to the Steel City to face the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday. The Reds enter the game riding a 4-game winning streak, as they continue to be one of the most streaky and unpredictable teams in the league. They will go weeks without scoring much, then they will explode. They will go through lengthy winning and losing streaks. It’s just a tough team to figure out. The Pirates, on the other hand, are much simpler: they are just bad, especially on offense. On Sunday, Paul Skenes pitched his arm off, throwing the entire game and yet still taking the 1-0 loss. For me, I just can’t trust Pittsburgh, so I’ll be taking the Reds on the money line.
I like both starters in this game. Nick Lodolo can be a frustrating lefty for the Reds, but most games, he turns in useable starts. He hasn’t fully found his strikeout upside, but the Pirates are near the bottom of the league versus lefties, so this should be a strong game for Lodolo just as long as he doesn’t walk people. Mitch Keller keeps turning in strong starts for the Pirates, but again, this offense is just so bad that the pitchers almost have to throw a shutout to win. I’m not going to cast my lot with this Pirates offense anytime I can avoid it. Give me the Reds to win.
