Guardians vs White Sox Pickswise Expert Predictions
The Cleveland Guardians and Chicago White Sox get set to wrap up their four-game series on Sunday before they get ready for the All-Star Break. Cleveland came away with a 6-2 win on Saturday, and on Sunday, they’re expected to hand the ball over to the left-hander Joey Cantillo, who’s set to make his third start of the season. In his first two starts, Cantillo has combined for 7.1 innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out 12. The majority of Cantillo’s work has been from the bullpen this season, posting a 1-0 record and a 3.79 ERA on the season.
For the White Sox, Aaron Civale will get the nod, and he’s struggled all season, entering with a 1-6 record and a 5.17 ERA. Civale hasn’t picked up a win since June 2nd, and in his last start against the Blue Jays, he allowed 5 earned runs in 4 innings pitched. Offensively, the White Sox are averaging 3.3 runs per game over their last 14, but the Guardians haven’t been much better, averaging just 3.6 runs per game during that same stretch. Cantillo is still adjusting to a starting role, so it’s tough to predict exactly how he’ll perform, but Civale’s struggles have been consistent all year. Despite both teams putting up similar offensive numbers, I like the way the Guardians are playing right now and think they’ll get the job done with Cantillo on the mound. Look for Cleveland to take advantage of Civales’ struggles and secure a series win, heading into the All-Star Break on a high note.
