The Colorado Rockies will take on the Miami Marlins Friday night for both teams opening day. The Rockies will be looking for a significant improvement this season. Last year they compiled a record of 43-119, which placed them in last place by a landslide. The positive thing for the Rockies today is that they are starting Kyle Freeland, who had a better away ERA (4.37) compared to at home (5.75). Additionally, Freeland opened last season by pitching 6.0 innings against the Tampa Bay Rays while only allowing 2 hits and no runs. I have a feeling Freeland will match that performance today.

The Marlins will start Sandy Alcantara, who ended last year with a losing record and a 5.36 ERA. This was his worst season since he started in MLB. I worry that his decline may continue, even against the Rockies. Overall, the Rockies have beefed up their pitching in an attempt to be more competitive this year. I think this is the perfect series for them to start the season 1-0. I am taking Colorado on the money line.
