Detroit Tigers vs Houston Astros Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 04/30/25

Let’s get the afternoon started with an MLB best bet, as the Detroit Tigers look to avoid the sweep against the Houston Astros. The Astros have controlled the first two games, finding more offense than they have had in most of the early going. The Tigers, though, are better than the market gives them credit for, and they are in the top third of the league in runs scored. As we head into Wednesday’s series finale, the Tigers also have a pitching advantage. This looks to me like a spot where the market is respecting the historic trajectories of these teams, favoring the Astros in a spot where they shouldn’t be favored. I’m happy to try to take advantage, and thus my Tigers vs Astros prediction is the Tigers to win the game. Even better that we can get it at even money, as of the time of this writing.

Jackson Jobe will start for Detroit. Jobe has been a solid starter this season, and he has allowed only 3 runs over his last 16 innings of work, all against divisional opponents. I think he is reliable. The Astros, on the other hand, look to be going with A.J. Blubaugh, who would be making his MLB debut. This looks like a move to build in an extra day of rest for the starters, and usually when teams do that, they intend to just take their chances trying to outscore someone. I think this is a spot where if the Tigers jump on the rookie early, the Astros may just let someone eat the innings and save arms. I think Detroit has a major advantage on the mound Wednesday, and I also think the Tigers’ offense is better than Houston’s, even if the market hasn’t fully caught on to that yet. Give me the Tigers.
