Detroit Tigers vs Kansas City Royals Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 08/29/25

We head to Kansas City this weekend for a big series between the Detroit Tigers and the Kansas City Royals. The Tigers come into the series slumping, having just been swept out west by the Athletics. Their lead in the Central is not in any jeopardy, as the Royals still sit 8.5 games back, but the Tigers need to fix some things fast. Meanwhile, the Royals are trying to crawl their way into the playoff race. I think we are setting up for a slugfest on Friday night with a pair of vulnerable starters out there, along with some motivated lineups. Give me the game total over 9 on Friday night.

These teams just faced each other last week, and both lineups had a look at Chris Paddock and Seth Lugo. Lugo seems broken right now, and whatever magic he found last season is gone. The 35-year-old anchor of this rotation has given up 6 or more runs in 3 of his last 4 starts, including a 6 spot to the Tigers last weekend. He has posted only 1 quality start this month, and he is being routinely chased from the game before the 5^th inning is over. That’s not going to work. Paddock, for his part, had a great start against the Royals last weekend, but he is wildly inconsistent, doesn’t work deep into games, and does not miss enough bats for me to feel good about him. I expect both guys to struggle, and I am looking for this game to turn into more of a shootout.
