Detroit Tigers
Money Line Pick
DET Tigers Win(-130)

The Detroit Tigers face the Miami Marlins on Saturday Yesterday, the Marlins won 8-2. On the mound today are Charlie Morton of the Tigers and Janson Junk of the Marlins. Morton has had a difficult season with a 5.59 ERA and a 9-10 record. He has also given up 5 or more runs in 3 of his last 6 starts. While these numbers are rough, Junk has not been much better. Junk has given up 3+ runs in his last 8 starts. Additionally, Junk has a 5.32 ERA in Miami this season. Overall, neither of these pitchers are very impressive. The biggest difference is that Morton has given up 32 hits in his last 34.0 innings, while Junk has given up 37 hits in his last 32 innings. I give the slight edge to Morton.

Outside of starting pitchers, both teams are batting .250 on the season. The biggest difference in their hitting statistics is that the Tigers rank seventh in total runs while the Marlins rank 15th. If we look ahead to the bullpens, the Tigers bullpen has been statistically better on the season. Given these slight advantages, it is hard to look past a Tigers team that is 1.5 games out of first place in the American League. Detroit also has a 38-35 away record compared to Miami’s 35-41 record at home. I am rolling with the Tigers to win this one following a disappointing loss yesterday.

Tigers vs Marlins prediction: Detroit ML (-130) available at time of publishing. Playable at that number.
