Tigers vs Padres Pickswise Expert Predictions

Game Totals Pick
Over 8.5(+100)

The Detroit Tigers couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season, outscoring the Padres 13-4 through their first two games. They’ll look to keep that momentum going as they send Jack Flaherty to the mound. Flaherty finished last season 8-15 with a 4.64 ERA, and his springing training didn’t inspire much confidence – allowing 14 hits and 11 earned runs over 12.2 innings. For the Padres, they’ll be sending Randy Vasquez to the mound who finished last season with a 6-7 record and a 3.84 ERA. He hasn’t been particularly sharp this spring either, giving up 10 runs on 14 hits in 18.1 innings.

I really like what this Tigers team is doing right now offensively. Gleyber Torres and Zach McKinstry are both swinging hot bats at the top, and it feels like only a matter of time before Kerry Carpenter and Spencer Torkelson get going – which would make this lineup even more dangerous. The Padres bring plenty of firepower of their own with Fernando Tatis Jr., Xander Bogaerts, and Manny Machado anchoring the top of the order. While we’re just two games into the season, the Padres bullpen has struggled, posting a 5.40 ERA, and it’s going to be hard to trust Vasquez in this matchup based on his spring training performance, and the same goes towards Flaherty. WIth both teams capable offensively, plus you have two starters who’ve struggled this spring and a Padres bullpen that is tired, the best play today will be the over. Expect both teams to come out aggressive at the plate in what could end up being a slug fest.
