Detroit Tigers vs Seattle Mariners Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 10/05/25

The ALDS takes the stage on Sunday, and we head to Seattle for Game 2 of the Detroit Tigers vs Seattle Mariners series. The Tigers stunned the Mariners with an extra-inning win on Saturday night. It was especially shocking because the pitching matchup was George Kirby vs whoever is available. But let’s just brag for a minute and note that we were some of the very few people who were on Detroit to win that game as +185 underdogs, fearing that Seattle might come in flat after a week off, and that Detroit might be playing loose and free with the pressure off of them after finally dispatching the Guardians. Well, on Sunday, expect the entire public market to hammer Detroit because Tarik Skubal is on the mound. But yet again, I will be going in the opposite direction — I will take plus money with the underdog Mariners.

The pitching matchup is Tarik Skubal vs Luis Castillo. Do I expect the Mariners to hit Skubal? No, I really don’t. But it is worth mentioning that the M’s tagged Skubal for 4 runs when they faced him in July. My problem here is that Skubal can’t cover all 9 innings himself (well, probably not, anyway). The Tigers have a tired and overworked bullpen already, and they had to throw everyone in Saturday’s 11-inning affair. On the other side, Castillo has been electric over the past month — allowing only a total of 3 runs in his last 4 starts. The Mariners threw everybody also, but the difference is that they had the week off, and all those guys can easily turn around and go again Sunday. I look for both starters to be outstanding, posting a ton of zeroes, but I ultimately see Seattle winning this one in the late innings against a gassed Detroit bullpen. Give me the Mariners on the money line.
