After posting the best record in baseball over the first half of the season, the Tigers are aiming to start the second half with a win against the Rangers on Friday night. Detroit will send Reese Olson to the mound, and he has looked sharp since returning from the IL in July. In 2 starts back in the rotation, Olson has allowed just 3 earned runs over 9.1 innings. He hasn’t racked up a ton of strikeouts — but now that he’s had 2 starts, as well as several days off during the all-star break — he could be in line for a solid outing.

On the other side, Patrick Corbin will toe the rubber for the Rangers. The veteran left-hander earned wins in each of his last 2 starts before the break. However, the Rangers are still 7-10 in his 17 starts on the season, and he could have his hands full with a Detroit lineup that ranks fourth in baseball with a .779 OPS against lefties. The Tigers’ bullpen ended the first half on a sour note, but now that they’ve had some time to regroup, they should be in better shape for this contest. I’m backing Detroit on the road.
