Astros vs Rockies Pickswise Expert Predictions
The Houston Astros and Colorado Rockies conclude a series on Thursday afternoon, and it will be a quick turnaround following a Wednesday night game. We are also talking about an afternoon game at Coors Field with temperatures around 90 degrees, and boy, does that sound like a hitting paradise to me! We can turn this game a lot of different ways, but a hot afternoon game at elevation without any pitchers likely to stand in the way of the scoring seems like a lock-and-load play to me. I’ll take the game total over 11.5 (and shop around — some books have 11.5 at even money, and others have 11 with some juice).
Kyle Freeland will throw for Colorado. Freeland hasn’t been good for several years now, and the lefty will face an Astros lineup that is almost entirely right-handed these days. Houston will throw Brandon Walter, who has made 5 starts this season, 4 of them solid outings. Most of those have been against bad offenses (which Colorado is also), but Coors is a different beast. The Rockies will also have a platoon advantage against the southpaw, although they have not been very successful against lefties most of the year. At one point in June, the Rockies were leading MLB in extra base hits for the month; I still think that potential is in there, and Thursday seems like a good day to see it. I like to bet on runs in Denver, and it rarely disappoints. Give me the over.
Astros vs Rockies prediction: Over 11.5 (+100) available at time of publishing. Playable at that number.
