Money Line Pick
HOU Astros Win(-115)

The New York Yankees open a critical series against the Houston Astros on Friday, and we have your prediction right here. New York finds itself clinging onto the last AL wild-card spot by just 1.5 games, making this series a pivotal one in its playoff push. The Astros have cooled off lately, winning only 4 of their last 10 while averaging 4.2 runs per game in that stretch. The Yankees haven’t been much better, also going 4 for their last 10 — but they have been slightly more productive at the plate with 4.4 runs per game in that span.

Both teams have struggled on the mound; the Yankees hold a 5.28 ERA over their last 13 games, whereas the Astros are slightly better at 4.74. Toeing the rubber for the Yankees will be Cameron Schlittler, who enters with a 1-2 record and 4.58 ERA. For the Astros, Hunter Brown will get the nod; he is 9-5 with a 2.47 ERA. Brown is by far the better pitcher in this matchup, but I can see Schlittler finding some success against this Houston team that has struggled to hit the ball of late. However, the Yankees’ bullpen has struggled; if manager Aaron Boone goes with David Williams to close things out, things could get dicey. At the end of the day, I like Brown and this Astros bullpen more than I do that of the Yankees. Give me Houston to steal a win, making it my best bet of the day.
