Los Angeles Dodgers vs New York Mets Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 05/23/25

The marquee series of the weekend comes in the National League as the Los Angeles Dodgers are set to take on the New York Mets in a game between a couple of World Series hopefuls. Both of these teams have been scoring at a good clip, while also allowing plenty of runs against quality opposition in recent games. Given the potency of both lineups and the struggles that each starting pitcher has experienced to this point in the season, offense can certainly be expected in the series opener on Friday.   

The Mets offense is certainly the strength of their team, especially with Griffin Canning getting the start in this matchup. The right-hander’s numbers are solid on paper, but his advanced metrics (48.1% hard-hit rate, 91.7 ground ball rate) do suggest that regression is coming for one of the weaker arms in this rotation. Against this loaded Dodgers lineup that really makes opposing pitchers work, I could certainly see Canning struggling in this spot. As for the visitors, the Dodgers’ struggles on the mound have played a significant part in their middling performance over the last 10-15 games. While water should find its level for the Dodgers pitching staff eventually, the struggles should continue on Friday with Clayton Kershaw on the mound (11.25 ERA, 11.88 xERA) taking the mound for Dave Roberts’ team. Kershaw is still working his way back from nearly a year away from MLB action, and the Mets lineup (9th in OPS, 8th in on-base percentage and slugging) isn’t one that he should enjoy facing, especially on the road. All things considered, let’s back the over in this massive tilt in New York.
