Miami Marlins vs Washington Nationals Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 09/01/25

It’s Labor Day, and that means a lot of early afternoon baseball. That brings us to the Miami Marlins vs Washington Nationals, in a game that few will pay attention to, as a pair of NL East bottom-feeders square off. The Nationals are once again in the midst of a long losing streak, this time 8 in a row, including sweeps by the Rays and Yankees. Most of that stretch, they have not been able to score much at all. The Marlins played spoiler over the weekend, taking 3 of 4 from the Mets. With a totally unknown pitching situation on Monday for both teams, I am taking the hotter team (or, more accurately, avoiding the cold one). Give me the Marlins on the Money Line.

Let’s talk about that pitching situation. The Nats plan to call up rookie Andrew Alvarez to make the start. There doesn’t seem to be very much special going on here, and Alvarez doesn’t even register on the team’s top 30 prospect list. He hasn’t pitched particularly well, and he seems to have very average stuff. There’s no reason to expect any much here. For Miami, it is still not clear what they are doing, but probably some form of a bullpen game. This is Ryan Gusto’s spot in the rotation, but as of 4 hours before first pitch, there has been no call-up, so expect a Johnny Wholestaff effort. I will take that, in this case, given that the Nats have been so bad lately and that we know we can’t expect much from their starter.
