Twins vs Astros Pickswise Expert Predictions
The Houston Astros have won 4 straight and look to complete the series sweep over Minnesota this afternoon with a bit of a newcomer taking the bump for the hosts. Brandon Walter (1.64 ERA, 0.91 WHIP) gets his third MLB start of his career after surrendering only 2 earned runs and 9 hits in 11.0 innings of work along with 10 strikeouts. It’s not a large sample size, but the righty held a 2.08 ERA through 11 Triple-A appearances this year and has an ideal matchup against a Minnesota offense that has been weaker against left-handed pitching.
The Twins will likely need some run support in masses with Simeon Woods Richardson (5.74 ERA, 1.63 WHIP) taking the mound for Minnesota. The righty has surrendered 6+ earned runs in back-to-back starts and is somehow still outperforming his 6.08 xERA, one of the worst marks in baseball. He falls in the 10th percentile or worse in xERA, xBA, barrel %, hard-hit % and ground ball rate. Houston also holds a significant advantage when the bullpens come out in relief, and I’m looking to fade Woods Richardson at all costs until proven otherwise; I’ll take the Astros.
