Mets vs Braves Pickswise Expert Predictions
David Peterson (2.49 ERA, 1.19 WHIP) takes the bump for New York, while Spencer Schwellenbach (3.11 ERA, 1.00 WHIP) gets the start for the hosting Atlanta Braves in this matchup. Both starting pitchers have had quality seasons up to this point, and both fall in the 90th percentile or better in pitching run value. Peterson is outperforming his xERA of 3.64 by a decent margin, although I wouldn’t say regression is “due” quite yet because the Braves rank 20th or worse in wRC+ and batting average against left-handed pitching.
Furthermore, New York has one of the best bullpens in baseball — which should keep the Atlanta bats quiet. While the Mets’ offense has been performing better as of late, Schwellenbach has been incredibly consistent with 4 straight quality starts — including a complete game with only 2 earned runs. With this pitching matchup and less-than-ideal weather conditions predicted for game time, I’ll take the under.
Mets vs Braves prediction: Under 8.5 (-110) available at time of publishing. Playable at that number.
