New York Mets vs Chicago Cubs Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 09/23/25

The Chicago Cubs are locked in to a Wild Card playoff spot already, while the New York Mets are desperately clawing for a spot in the NL Wild Card, currently sitting neck-and-neck with Cincinnati. A win or loss frankly doesn’t affect the Cubs, but it could mean a world of a difference for New York. David Peterson (3.98 ERA, 1.34 WHIP) takes the mound for New York and he’s coming off likely his worst stretch of the 2025 season. However, there is expected to be roughly 10 mph winds blowing directly towards home plate, and Wrigley Field historically sees low-scoring games with high-velocity winds present.

Cade Horton (2.66 ERA, 1.10 WHIP) starts for the hosts and has been excellent as of late, falling in the 89th percentile in pitching run value with only 2 earned runs in his last 16.1 innings pitched. Both squads have quality bullpens in relief, and with the high-stakes on the line as well as the weather factors present, I’ll take the under in this matchup.
