Mets vs Cubs Pickswise Expert Predictions

New York Mets
Money Line Pick
NY Mets Win(-110)

Oh, Mets. Once again, the poor Mets are in the midst of a September collapse, and I almost feel bad bringing it up. What once looked like a near certainty for the Mets to make the postseason has become a final-week dogfight between several teams. The Mets got blasted by the Cubs on Wednesday to the tune of 10-3, and I fully expect the public to just fade the heck out of New York on Thursday, playing the collapse angle. But I have more confidence in the Mets in this spot, so my New York Mets vs Chicago Cubs prediction is the Mets on the money line.

I love Nolan McLean for the Mets. The rookie is easily their best starter right now, and in fact, McLean and some other rookies have done well enough that the Mets are now using previous starters out of the bullpen (Holmes, Manaea). And it is not like the Cubs have been playing well lately either, so I really like McLean to keep rolling. He will face Shota Imanaga, who has a streak of five consecutive starts in which he has allowed exactly 3 earned runs. So I like McLean better as the starter, and while I have lots of questions about the Mets’ bullpen that worry me, I still like the veteran bats for New York more than the struggling Cubs offense. Give me the Mets, as I tread cautiously into unpopular territory.

Mets vs Cubs prediction: New York Mets ML (-110) available at time of publishing. Playable at that number.
