Mets vs Pirates Pickswise Expert Predictions

New York Mets
Money Line Pick
NY Mets Win(-155)

The New York Mets and Pittsburgh Pirates finish up a series on Sunday afternoon. The Pirates smoked the Mets on Saturday, 9-2, on the strength of a 6-run 8th inning. It is no secret that the Mets are not playing their best baseball over the past few weeks, while the Pirates have been close to .500 lately, which is honestly probably their ceiling. That does make it a bit difficult to back the Mets, but I think that is the right play on Sunday. Even though there isn’t much meat on the bone here, my Mets vs Pirates pick is the Mets on the Money Line.

The Mets will throw Frankie Montas, making his second start of the season. His first start was 5 shutout innings against the Braves. I don’t expect that to be his standard, and probably the only thing repeatable about that performance was that he was held to 80 pitches, but maybe he will surprise me. On the other side is Mike Burrows, a young starter that the Pirates seem bent on ruining with inconsistency of use. This is clear a starter, but rather than let him develop every 5 days, they threw him out of the bullpen last week for no good reason. As it stands, the inconsistency of use also leads to inconsistency of performance, and I think there’s a chance the Mets jump on Burrows as a result. Give me the Mets in this one.

Mets vs Pirates Prediction: Mets ML (-155) available at the time of publishing. Playable at that number.
