Mets vs Giants Pickswise Expert Predictions

Game Totals Pick
Under 7.5(-105)

Tyler Mahle is one player you wonder what might’ve been if not for unfortunate injury luck. The right-hander has had some good seasons in the majors when he is available and healthy, but the story around him has always been the issues with his right shoulder. The San Francisco Giants hope they can get the most out of him this season, but his most starts over the last 3 seasons came in 2022, when he had just 23. Last season, Mahle started 16 games for the Texas Rangers, posting a 2.08 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP, which were elite. The problem is we don’t know if he can do it over an entire season.

Nolan McLean’s debut with the New York Mets last season was red-hot, owning a 5-1 record in eight starts with a 2.06 ERA. He gave hope as their ace of the future, leading to his even earning a spot on Team USA’s WBC roster and starting in the Championship Game against Venezuela. No one doubts what McLean can do or that he is a big part of the Mets’ future, and he had another solid but not spectacular outing in his first start this season, allowing four hits and two earned runs over five innings.

The Giants are near the bottom of the league in runs scored this season, totaling just 21. Meanwhile, the Mets haven’t scored more than four runs in a game since their 11-run outburst against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Opening Day. New York’s offense isn’t going to stay quiet all season, and as long as they don’t wake up in this game, it could be another low-scoring game.
