Yankees vs Orioles Pickswise Expert Predictions
The New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles cap off a 4-game series from Camden Yards on Sunday afternoon. The Yankees have won 2 of 3 so far this weekend, and they sit only 2 games back of the Blue Jays in the AL East. The Yankees finish the season with the White Sox and Orioles, so they are very much alive to run down the division crown. The Orioles, of course, are not your ordinary last place team, as they have played strong baseball in the second half, coinciding with a healthier roster. I do not have a strong feeling as to who wins this game, but I do like the pitching situation for both squads, so I am leaning toward the game total under 8.5 on Sunday.
Cam Schlitter will go for the Yankees. The rookie has really helped stabilize the rotation in the second half, and he has consistently delivered winnable starts for the Bombers. He carries a 3.41 ERA through 12 starts, and he hasn’t really worked on a limited pitch count the way most rookies do at this point. When he gets into trouble, it is because of the walks. He walked 5 in his last outing, and it led to 4 runs. If he limits the free passes, he is a strong pitcher. The Orioles will hand the ball to Kyle Bradish, who will be making only his 5th start of the season. He has been steady since his return, allowing only 1 or 2 runs per start. It also helps that both teams are off on Monday, so there is not a lot of reason to hold back the bullpen arms. I think we can get two good starts followed by strong bullpen arms on Sunday, so I am taking the under.
Yankees vs Orioles Prediction: Under 8.5 (-110) available at the time of publishing. Playable at that number.
