It’s going to be a hot one at game time in Cincinnati as the New York Yankees and Cincinnati Reds get ready for Game 1 of this 3-game series. The Yankees will be out for revenge — the Reds swept them in last year’s series, and the Yankees can’t afford to have that happen again with Tampa Bay breathing down their necks in the AL East standings. However, for today’s Yankees vs Reds prediction, I’m siding with the Reds despite the Yankees winning 3 of their last 4. Here’s why. 

With Ryan Yarbrough joining the IL, Allan Winans is set to make his debut for the Yankees tonight. Winans was claimed off waivers by the Yankees during the offseason. In Triple-A this season, Winans has made 9 starts, posting a 7-0 record and a 0.90 ERA, allowing just 5 earned runs in 50 innings. However, looking at his time with the Braves, he’s struggled in the majors, going 1-4 with a 7.20 ERA in 8 starts. For the Reds, Nick Lodolo will get the start, who’s 5-5 with a 3.71 ERA this season. The biggest question mark for me in this matchup is what Allan Winans will the Yankees see? Despite him performing well in the minors, he’s struggled in the majors and the Reds’ offense is more than capable of putting up runs as they’re averaging 4.8 runs per game over their last 13. Not knowing how Winans will perform, I’m going to take a chance with the Reds here being at home and at plus-money odds.
