Game 2 of the American League Division Series between the New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays is set for Sunday. On Saturday the Blue Jays dominated 10-1. The Yankees will be hoping for a bounce-back game by putting Max Fried on the mound. On the year, Fried has been great. He has a 2.86 ERA with a 19-5 record. The issue with this plan is that Fried struggled in his last 2 starts against the Blue Jays. In those outings he pitched 12.1 innings, giving up 12 hits and 7 earned runs. An additional concern is that the Yankees will be looking for him to go deep in the game due to bullpen difficulties. Through the 4 games of the playoffs, the Yankees’ bullpen has given up 16 hits and 11 runs. If Fried isn’t on, it could be another rough day for the visitors.

For the Blue Jays, they will put Trey Yesavage on the mound. The rookie has only pitched 14.0 innings this season and given up 13 hits and 5 earned runs. These numbers are not bad, but it can cause some worry in his first playoff start. The good news for the Blue Jays is that their bullpen looked incredible in Game 1. With the ‘pen performing so well, they will not be worried about pulling Yesavage early. Outside of the pitching, Toronto led the league in batting average and hits on the season. The Jays also batted .389 in the series opener with 14 total hits. Overall, I will trust the rookie with the Blue Jays bats behind him. I’m rolling with the Blue Jays to make it 2-0 in the series.
