Philadelphia Phillies vs Miami Marlins Prediction, Odds and Picks for Monday, 06/16/25

The first game of the Monday slate features the Philadelphia Phillies and Miami Marlins. Both teams are coming off weekend sweeps, the Marlins over the Nats and the Phillies over the Blue Jays. The Phillies continue to play without Bryce Harper, but you still have to think their lineup is better than the young and developing Marlins. This game is close to even money though because of a former Cy Young winner on the mound for the Marlins. Still, I think the right play is Philadelphia on the money line.

Sandy Alcantara takes the ball for the Fish tonight. He has had a rough season as he tries to work his way back to health, and he has rarely shown the dominant stuff that made him the best pitcher in the NL at one point. Prior to his last 2 starts, he had given up at least 4 runs in 7 straight starts — and when he faced the Phillies in early April they chased him in just 2 innings. But over the last 2 starts, Alcantara has been very strong. Coincidentally, those starts came against Colorado and Pittsburgh — the 2 lowest-scoring teams in the league. I’m going to have to see it against someone better, please. The Phillies will start Mick Abel, a young arm making only his fourth start of the season. We may not know fully who he is just yet, but the Marlins’ lineup is a fairly soft landing point for him. Let’s back the better team with the better offense, while we wait on Alcantara to prove himself a bit more before his inevitable move at the trade deadline.
