Phillies vs Pirates Pickswise Expert Predictions
The Phillies’ struggles continued last night with a 4-3 loss to the Pirates. For the second straight game, Jordan Romano picked up a loss pitching in the 9th inning. Tonight, both teams will send veteran left-handers to the mound, and the last time these two pitchers faced off against each other was May 16 where the Phillies rallied late to pick up the win.
Taking the mound for the Phillies will be Ranger Suarez who is 4-0 with a 2.72 ERA. For the Pirates, Andrew Heaney will get the start who’s 3-4 with a 3.39 ERA. Heaney has pitched well for the Pirates this season, and he’s been one of the more reliable arms for them this season. However, Suarez has been nearly untouchable in his last three starts, giving up just one earned run in 18.2 innings pitched and striking out 16. Looking at the starting pitching matchup, and the roster, the Phillies have a sizable advantage, but it’s their bullpen that worries me as they have a 4.58 ERA this season. At the end of the day, I think Suarez will be able to go deep into this game and help put the Phillies in a position to pick up a win, and help limit the number of innings needed from their bullpen. Look for the Phillies to roll and win by at least 2 runs in today’s matchup.
