Pittsburgh Pirates vs Baltimore Orioles Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 09/09/25

The first game on the MLB slate Tuesday is the Pittsburgh Pirates vs the Baltimore Orioles. Both teams were off Monday, so we should have full lineups and bullpen availability on Tuesday. The Orioles have been heating up lately, now that everyone seems healthy. They lost Sunday’s game to the Dodgers, but they had won the previous 5, including 2 against LA and a sweep of the Padres. The Pirates swept the Dodgers a week ago, then promptly ran into the buzzsaw that is the Brewers. Overall, though, the Pirates have played strong baseball in the second half, and I like their chances of covering the +1.5 Run Line on Tuesday.

The Pirates and their pitching will be tricky the rest of the way as they are trying to use their young, future arms, but also are seeking to limit their workload. To that end, Braxton Ashcraft (Tuesday’s starter) only worked 71 pitches and 4 innings last week, and he was followed by Mike Burrows, who has been moved to the bullpen to limit his load. We probably see these guys piggyback to cover most of the game, and both are really good; there is no reason to fade them on Tuesday. Baltimore goes with Kyle Bradish, who will be making his third start of the season. He has been okay, and better than most of the Baltimore starters, but I definitely prefer the Pirates’ young duo to Bradish. I’ll take the Pirates +1.5 in a spot where most bettors will probably back the Orioles, if only because of the lack of familiarity with the young Pirate arms.
