Pittsburgh Pirates vs Cincinnati Reds Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 09/23/25

The Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds begin a series on Tuesday that means everything to the Reds. Thanks to the utter collapse of the Mets, the Reds have somehow clawed their way back into the playoff picture. They swept the Cubs in a 4-game set over the weekend when they absolutely had to, and that pushed them to 5 wins in a row. Meanwhile, the Mets imploded (as is typical of the Mets this time of year), and the Reds enter Tuesday tied for the final wild-card spot. Given the stakes, I don’t know how you bet this game any other way than to back the team that has to win. Give me the Reds on the money line, and make it a best bet for Tuesday.

The Reds will send Brady Singer to the mound. He is this year’s guy whose success just doesn’t make sense to me. Yet he has won 14 games, and had he recorded just 1 more out last week in his 1-run effort against the Cardinals, he would have turned in his seventh consecutive quality start. I can’t make any sense of Singer using stats and metrics, but if the dude keeps producing, I’m just rolling with it at this point. He will face Johan Oviedo. Oviedo has been fine since joining the rotation, but he is basically a 5-and-dive guy; he is nothing special. While it is true that the Reds’ offense has disappeared for days at a time repeatedly throughout the season, the chips are all down on Tuesday, and they can’t afford to do that. I think we see the Reds come out on fire, and Singer and a rested bullpen take care of the rest.
