Pittsburgh Pirates vs Cincinnati Reds Prediction, Odds and Picks for Wednesday, 09/24/25

This is a great pitching matchup between Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Hunter Greene of the Reds. Skenes is having an incredible year with a 2.03 ERA, although his record sits at 10-10 due to the Pirates’ hitting struggles. The Cy Young hopeful is coming off one of his worst starts of the season in which he gave up 7 hits and 3 runs in just 3.2 innings against the Chicago Cubs. Prior to that start, he had only allowed 1 run in his last 24.0 innings. Skenes should feel good coming into this one, as the Reds are batting .219 with only 23 runs in the last 6 games. Additionally, Skenes faced them earlier in the year and went 6.0 innings while giving up 7 hits and no runs.

For the Reds, Greene has also been great this season with a 2.74 ERA and a 7-4 record. He is coming off an incredible start where he pitched a complete-game shutout of the Cubs and only gave up 1 hit. Taking a deeper look at Greene, he has yielded 2 or fewer runs in every home start this year. That contributes to his 1.44 ERA at home. The only problem is that the Pirates are currently batting .273 over the last 5 games. Luckily for Greene, he faced Pittsburgh’s lineup earlier this season and went 7.0 innings giving up just 2 hits and zero runs. Both of these pitchers look great. Outside of the starters, these are 2 of the hottest bullpens in the MLB. Both the Pirates’ and the Reds’ bullpens have only given up 1 run over their past 5 games. Overall, I struggle to see either of these teams hitting the ball well today.
