Pittsburgh Pirates vs Detroit Tigers Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 06/17/25

After a messy series against the Reds, the Tigers return home to host the Pittsburgh Pirates as they look to get back on track. In the Tigers last two games, they’ve been outscored 19-5, something that we’re not used to seeing from the Tigers this season. As for the Pirates, they’ve lost 3 out of 4 against a solid Cubs squad. While Pittsburgh’s pitching staff did well to limit the Cubs offense, allowing nine runs in that series, their offensive woes continued, scoring only seven runs in that four-game series. 

Casey Mize will take the mound for the Tigers, entering with a 6-2 record and a 2.95 ERA on the season. Mize hasn’t won a game since May 8th, and in his last four starts, he’s 0-1 with a 3.93 ERA. For the Pirates, Bailey Falter will get the start with a 5-3 record and a 3.36 ERA. Falter pitched well in his last start against Miami, allowing just one earned run in 5.1 innings pitched. In the Pirates last six games, they’re averaging 2.3 runs per game compared to the Tigers 4.3. Today’s pitching matchup is fairly even, in my opinion, but the Pirates have struggled on the road this season, going 10-25 compared to the Tigers 24-11 record at home. I think Mize will find success against this struggling Pirates offense and will pick up his first win in over a month, which is why I’ll be back the Tigers to win by two or more runs in today’s matchup as my best bet of the day.
