The Tigers took the first game of this series 7-3 on Tuesday night. Now, Detroit will send Tarik Skubal to the mound for Wednesday’s contest. Skubal is on a generational run right now. The reigning Cy Young winner has allowed just 1 earned run over his last 30.2 innings of work, and leads the league with a 0.81 WHIP on the season. He is overpowering opposing hitters on a consistent basis and could have a favorable matchup against a Pittsburgh offense that ranks dead last in baseball in terms of OPS and total runs scored.

On the other side, Andrew Heaney will get the start for the Pirates. The veteran left-hander has been consistently strong for Pittsburgh so far this season and is coming off back-to-back quality starts. The Tigers hit lefties well, but their offense as a whole has been very up-and-down so far in June. Heaney is holding his opponents to a .206 batting average on the road, and he has done a great job of preventing free passes lately. After issuing 15 walks in 24.2 innings in May, Heaney has yet to allow a walk through 3 starts and 17.2 innings in June.
