Pittsburgh Pirates vs Washington Nationals Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 09/14/25

The Pittsburgh Pirates snapped their seven-game losing streak on Saturday with a 5-1 victory over the Nationals. Both teams are out of playoff contention, so it’s all about pride now as they both look to secure a series win on Sunday. Taking the mound for the Pirates will be Michael Burrows who enters with a 2-4 record and a 3.99 ERA. 

For the Nationals, Cade Cavalli will get the nod, entering with a 3-1 record and a 4.67 ERA. Offensively, the Nationals have the edge in this matchup, averaging 5.9 runs per game over their last 10 games compared to the Pirates 2.8. However, when you look at pitching, the Pirates have a 3.34 ERA in their last 10 games compared to the Nationals 5.07 ERA. Overall, I trust the Nationals a lot more here than I do the Pirates. I expect Josh Bell to continue his hot hitting ways as he has a 1.288 OPS with four homers and 15 RBIs in his last seven games. Look for Bell and this Nationals team to get to Burrows early on and close out the series with a win, making Washington my best bet of the day.
