San Diego Padres vs Colorado Rockies Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 09/05/25

We head to Denver on Friday for the start of a series between two teams playing terrible baseball. We expect the Rockies to be bad—they just got swept by the Giants. But the Padres? Since finally winning a series against the Dodgers, they have lost 3 consecutive series, including just being swept at home by the Orioles. During that stretch, it has been the offense that has killed them. The Friars are hoping a trip to Coors can cure their hitting woes. The weather is changing though, and it is a cool night in Denver, not necessarily the “auto over” weather we see there all summer. My Padres vs Rockies pick on Friday night is to play the game total under.

Nick Pivetta has been dependable for the Padres. I figure he will at least pile up strikeouts for a few innings, and he almost certainly will have a lead to hand off to the game’s best bullpen. I do not expect Colorado to do much scoring tonight, and that is the primary factor that pushes me to the under. The other side is the risk. Kyle Freeland will go for the Rockies, and, well, Freeland is terrible. He lasted only 8 pitches in his last outing before getting in a fight with Rafael Devers after Devers pimped a homerun. Freeland gave up 1 homer in those 8 pitches, which is less than he has allowed in most of his previous starts. So he is going to give up some damage, but can he keep it minimal enough to stay under this total? I think the Padres offense has been cold enough lately to take the chance. Give me the under on Friday.
