Padres vs Phillies Pickswise Expert Predictions
We have a loaded schedule on Wednesday with several doubleheaders, and the San Diego Padres vs Philadelphia Phillies is one of them. Prior to Tuesday’s rainout, the Phillies won the first game of the series on Monday by a score of 4-0, in a game that saw the return of Bryce Harper from the IL. He did not get a hit in his return, but just having him in the middle of the lineup stabilizes things for the Phillies. If only he could pitch out of the bullpen, all the Philly problems would be solved.
The starting pitching is Nick Pivetta vs Mick Abel. Pivetta was scheduled to throw yesterday. He has been inconsistent lately, and he has given up at least 4 runs in 3 of his last 4 starts. Working against him is the fact that the most dangerous Philly bats hit from the left side. Abel, on the other hand, has had a long layoff. He skipped his last start after the start of the game was delayed due to weather, but he had already warmed up, so that was that. He last pitched on June 21. Hopefully the layoff has him feeling fresh, but don’t expect him to go more than 5 innings. That’s when it gets crazy, because I trust the Phillies bullpen about like I trust the local used car salesman. Still, I think the right play in the first game of this twin bill is the Phillies on the money line.
Padres vs Phillies Prediction: Phillies ML (-105) available at the time of publishing. Playable at that number.
