The San Francisco Giants and Arizona Diamondbacks finish their series on Thursday night. Giants fans thought they were about to take off to another level after acquiring Rafael Devers, but that has not been the case at all. Instead, they have fallen back to the league-average team we all thought they were in the first place. The Diamondbacks haven’t been much better, and life has been tough without their best player in the leadoff spot due to a wrist injury. Thursday’s game is priced essentially as a pick-em, which is unusual given the apparent pitching advantage favoring San Fran. I think most of the money will flow that way, but I am going to go in the direction of the Diamondbacks.

Look, I get it if you don’t want to trust Brandon Pfaadt. Maybe you, like me, still have some PTSD from that yes-hitter he threw a month ago, and that is understandable. He has also been much better since then. It’s not like I am racing to the window to back Pfaadt, but it is the case that the Giants are dreadful against RHP, and that is one reason they so desperately wanted Devers. On the other hand, the D-backs are a really good offense against LHP. Robbie Ray is one of the better lefties out there, but teams don’t always win when their good pitchers throw. This line smells fishy to me, like the books are begging us to back Robbie Ray and the Giants. I am going the other way.
