While Ray has had a few bumpy outings recently, he generally does a good job limiting damage by working out of trouble and keeping the ball in the park. Against a Dodgers lineup that can punish mistakes, Ray’s ability to miss bats and avoid crooked numbers will be key in keeping San Francisco competitive in what could shape up as a low-scoring game.

The Dodgers counter with veteran Clayton Kershaw, who continues to deliver in what might be his final season. The left hander has put together a 10-2 record with a 3.53 ERA and 1.22 WHIP across 102.0 innings, leaning more on his command and sequencing than raw stuff at this stage in his career. He has been effective at inducing soft contact and limiting big innings, traits that give Los Angeles confidence whenever he takes the mound. With both Ray and Kershaw capable of keeping hitters off balance, and neither lineup consistently lighting up opposing aces, this matchup sets up well for a lower scoring affair. The main reason I’ll back the under here is because both offenses lit up the scoreboard with this exact pitching matchup last week. I’m banking on both pitchers to make adjustments in L.A.
