San Francisco Giants vs Minnesota Twins Prediction, Odds and Picks for Friday, 05/09/25

The San Francisco Giants continue their road trip as they head to Minnesota to face the Twins, fresh off a series win in Chicago — where they took 2 of 3 from the Cubs. Both of these teams come into this series red hot. San Francisco has won 5 of its last 6, while Minnesota has won 5 in a row. Pitching has been a key factor for both teams in their recent success. In the last 7 days the Giants posted a team ERA of 2.45, with the Twins close behind at 2.89. Both teams will send out starters who have struggled this season, but I think the Giants have the slight edge. 

The Giants will start Jordan Hicks, who is 1-3 with a 6.03 ERA this season. Hicks hasn’t won a game since March 31, but in his last start he did pitch slightly better — giving up just 3 earned runs and striking out 7 against the Rockies. For the Twins, Chris Paddack gets the start. He is 0-3 with a 5.57 ERA this season. As Paddack is hopeful to secure his first win, it may be tough since he typically doesn’t go deep into the game — plus the Twins’ bullpen has been heavily utilized in the last 3 days. While pitching is relatively even, the edge in offense goes to San Francisco. Over the past 7 days the Giants have posted a .784 OPS and are averaging 6.3 runs per game, compared to a .696 OPS and 4.8 runs per game for the Twins. Both teams have been red hot, but for this matchup I think the Giants have the upper hand — which is why I’m backing San Francisco money line as my best bet of the day.
