Roupp struggled in his most recent start, giving up 5 runs on 6 hits in 3.2 innings against the Milwaukee Brewers. On the year, he holds a 4.56 ERA through 5 starts. On the other side, King had an impressive outing in his most recent start. He pitched 5 innings giving up 1 run on 4 hits against the Tampa Bay Rays. This was a prime example of how impressive King can be.
Jumping into the hitting, the Giants have a team batting average of .229 with 139 runs on 227 hits. The Padres have a team batting average of .257 (4th in MLB) with 113 runs on 242 hits. Both teams have the potential to hit the ball in this one. What makes that difficult, is that these teams are the best bullpens in the MLB when looking at ERA and WHIP. This puts more emphasis on the starters in this one. Looking at everything, we can see that the Padres batting is the batting is the best that Roupp has faced this year. Additionally, the Padres were able to hit Webb well in game 1 and we can assume that Roupp may be a step down. On the other side, Nick Pivetta had a great outing in the first game of the series and we are getting an upgrade on the Padres side with King. Given the potential of King, the better hitting of the Padres, and the 13-4 record the Padres hold at home we can feel good about them making it back-to-back wins against the Giants.
