Seattle Mariners vs Philadelphia Phillies Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 08/19/25

The Philadelphia Phillies host the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night after winning a wild slugfest on Monday by the score of 12-7. The Phillies have stretched out their lead in the East to 5.5 games, while the Mariners still trail the Astros by 1.5. The Mariners have not enjoyed their east coast trip, dropping 2 of 3 to both the Orioles and Mets already. I don’t love Tuesday’s spot as a bettor—it feels safe to back the Phillies to win, but there is not much profit to be made, yet I think pivoting to the Run Line looks like a trap, especially considering Philly used two of its best bullpen arms on Monday and is prone to late-inning nail-biting. So let’s aim for the small profit on Tuesday and take the Phillies to just win.

The pitching advantage should be largely in favor of the Phils as Cristopher Sanchez faces Bryce Miller. Miller is returning from the IL tonight after a couple months down with an elbow injury. He was ugly before getting shut down, and I do not expect him to be out there long tonight—maybe 75 pitches?—so this isn’t a great spot for Seattle. Sanchez, on the other hand, has been maybe the most reliable guy in the league. He has turned in quality starts in 13 of his last 14 starts. He goes deep into games (keep that Philly bullpen out of the picture!), and no one really does damage against him. So I feel good about the Phillies winning, but I don’t want to fall into the trap of chasing the Run Line either. Let’s take what should be a simple winner, even if it isn’t sexy.
