On the mound, we have Patrick Corbin for the Rangers and Trevor Rogers for the Orioles. Corbin has made some significant improvements this year, but has managed to give up 3+ runs in 5 of his last 7 starts. Additionally, the Rangers have lost 7 of his last 10 starts. Part of the reason he has lost so many is due to the lack of hitting from the Rangers. On the year, the Rangers rank 27th in hits, 26th in runs scored and 26th in batting average. These numbers do not lend themselves to winning often. Making matters worse, the Rangers have only scored 17 runs over the past 6 games.

Toeing the rubber for the Orioles will be Rogers. He has pitched twice this year, with his first outing going very well and his second going poorly. In his first start, he pitched 6.1 innings against the Red Sox, giving up just 2 hits and 0 runs. However, in the second game, he pitched against the Rays and gave up 5 hits and 3 runs in just 2.1 innings. The reason for pulling him early is the fact that he walked 3 batters in his 2.1 innings. Luckily for him, the Rangers rank 26th in walks this year, meaning they are happy to swing at balls outside of the strike zone. If Rogers can remain composed on the mound, it should be a good day for the Orioles, as they return home after road series against the Rays and Yankees. The Orioles can also feel more confident as those 2 teams boast some of the best batters in MLB, so the Rangers are a major step down in the hitting department. Finally, Baltimore hits significantly better at home, averaging over 8 hits per game with a .250 batting average. Overall, I feel that Corbin does not provide enough defensive security for the lack of hitting that the Rangers have shown. I am rolling with the Orioles to get back in the win column today.
