Texas Rangers vs Detroit Tigers Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 05/02/26

The Texas Rangers and Detroit Tigers face off on Saturday night after Texas took the series opener on Friday, 5-4. For the Tigers, that makes 3 losses in their last 4 games, and both teams are hovering right around the .500 mark. On the mound will be Kumar Rocker for the Rangers and Keider Montero for the Tigers. There is not a great deal of reason to put much faith in either guy, so we assume some risk in either direction. But my preference tonight is the Rangers on the Money Line at plus odds.

Rocker is a former first round pick who is struggling to stick in the rotation so far. His numbers are good this season, but some of the underlying metrics, like hard hit rate, are suspicious and suggest regression is coming. Montero has always been a back-of-the-rotation guy, but he appears to have taken a step forward this year. But is it sustainable? Again, both guys come with risk. One major difference in this matchup, though, is the bullpens. Texas has the top bullpen ERA in baseball at 2.76. If the Tigers don’t do the damage early, they might not at all. Give me the Rangers to win.
