Texas Rangers vs Houston Astros Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 09/15/25

The Texas Rangers and Houston Astros play a hugely important series this week, and it gets started on Monday night in Houston. The Rangers took a loss on Sunday to end a 6-game winning streak, and they took 2 of 3 from the Astros barely a week ago, but they still trail Houston by 3 games in the division and haven’t quite been able to run down a wild card slot. With 2 weeks left to play, everything is urgent. The Astros are fighting to fend off the hard-charging Mariners as well. I expect this series to feel like a playoff series, and pitchers will get pulled at the first sign of trouble. I think this game will be a hotly contested under. I’ll take the game total under 8.5.

Jack Leiter and Jason Alexander take the hill. Both guys have been steady, if nothing else. Alexander should have a slight advantage. Although he is the lesser of the two arms, he has not faced the Rangers yet, whereas the Astros have seen Leiter twice this season already. Although it is also worth noting that with as many injuries as the Houston lineup has had, several guys in the projected lineup have not yet faced Leiter, including Yordan Alvarez. I expect both pitchers to log 5 or 6 innings with 2 or 3 earned runs allowed, and then a parade of strong bullpen arms to keep the game quiet. Keep in mind that Texas has struggled on offense all season, and they tend to play a lot of close, low-scoring games, and I expect another one here.
