The Athletics vs Boston Red Sox Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 09/16/25

The Red Sox welcome the Athletics to Fenway Park for a pivotal three-game set. With only 12 games left, this is a series the Red Sox must win as they’re six games behind the Blue Jays in the AL East. If the Red Sox want any chance at closing the gap, these are the games they need to win before their upcoming series against Toronto. Taking the mound for Boston will be the rookie Connelly Early who was magnificent in his debut, throwing five shutout innings and striking out 11. 

For the A’s, they’ll hand the ball to Jeffrey Springs who enters with a 10-11 record and a 4.28 ERA. Springs has struggled as of late, losing his last three starts and hasn’t earned a win since July 30. Offensively, the Red Sox offense has been sluggish, averaging 4.1 runs per game over their last 10, while the Athletics has been more productive at 5.7. With so much on the line, this is a game the Red Sox can’t afford to let slip. Early should be able to string together another strong outing against the A’s, putting his team in a position to take the opener.
